Yi Peng refers to the full moon day in the second month according to the Lanna lunar calendar. What does the Thai term Yi Peng actually mean? Yi means “two” and Peng means “full moon day”. The Yi Peng festival, also known as “the festival of lights”, includes other traditions they celebrate such as firework displays, firecrackers, traditional Thai dance shows, a parade, live music and handicraft sessions. This celebration is attended by 3000 – 4000 people a year. These traditions have been a part of people’s life since the 13th century and is celebrated in Thailand on the 19th November.
